1. Practice Handwriting
Okay this isn't a very important reason but I had to add this! I don't know about you but I always wish my handwriting was better. What better way to practice your handwriting than writing? Plus having a journal is all about not thinking and just writing what comes to mind. It give you the chance to focus on how your writing is, not what your writing is about.
2.Vent Feelings
This is an obvious reason, but it is really important! A lot of time in life we run into a situation or problems we can't fix right away, or ever. It makes us feel helpless and depressed. But that's life, and we have to deal with it. Having a journal lets us get out all that bottled emotion. It gives us a chance to get whats bothering us off our chest. And nobody to judge you! Another benefit to venting your feelings, is sometimes you actually find a solution that was right in front of you.
3. Better Understanding of Yourself
This reason ties in with the one above. Writing gives you a voice, it really does! With all your feelings written down you can go back and reflect on them. This gives you a better understanding of who you are. It also will give you an idea of the kind of person you want to be. What problems you want to solve, and how you want to deal with your feelings in the future. In my opinion, understanding yourself and developing as an individual is the key to happiness. Self improvement is something everyone should be attempting, and having a journal is a great tool for that journey.
4. Tone Up your Writing Skills
Simple rule; if you write more, your writing will get better. What I really enjoy about journaling is that I don't think and get ahead of myself. When I'm writing my novel or even writing for this blog I think way too much and crash and burn. I like the free flow of journaling, and I believe it's helping me not to over-think writing.
5. Evidence of your Life
This is the main reason I started a journal. I want evidence of my life. We are only here for a short while and it warms my heart just thinking of my children or grand children reading my journals. I would love to find journals of my ancestors. And I hope one day someone reads mine and learns about my life. Doesn't that sounds so cool? I think so!
